Mrs. Kathy Bechdel

Principal
Experience:
Kathy Bechdel has been the principal of OLVCS since 1999. Her career in education spans over thirty years, beginning as a secondary mathematics teacher in both public and private schools. In 1993, she was given an opportunity to begin working in administration and was principal of St. Matthew School in Tyrone, PA and Sacred Heart School in Lewistown, PA. Mrs. Bechdel attended Penn State University and received her BS in Secondary Education, Elementary Principal Certification. She then went on to receive her Masters in Education at New York State University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, quilting, and traveling. Mrs. Bechdel is proud to be associated with OLVCS and its great faculty, staff, parents and students.
Mrs. Andrea Brandimarte

8B – Language Arts (Grades 6–8)
Experience:
Andrea Brandimarte joined the OLV faculty in 2007 and has been the Middle School Language Arts teacher since 2008. In 1983 she earned her BS degree in Business Marketing from Providence College in Rhode Island. Her teaching career began in 1987, during that time she taught grades 1-8 in Vermont, New York, and Georgia. She also worked in the business world before going back to Castleton State in Vermont for her Masters in Reading in 1989. Along with reading, writing, and knitting, Mrs. Brandimarte enjoys skiing, golfing, and biking with her family. She is thrilled to be teaching at OLV where her son and daughter also attend.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Bucknavage

6A – Math (Grades 6–8)
Experience:
Mary Ellen Bucknavage joined the OLVCS staff in 2008 as a long-term substitute in both Art and Math. She began her career in the financial services industry, first as a computer programmer and then as a finance manager. Her teaching career began at Sacred Heart/St. Isidore Grammar School in Vineland, NJ, where she taught 5th and 6th grade accelerated math. She attended Marquette University and studied Management Information Systems, Southern New Hampshire University and received an MBA, and Western Governors University to receive her grades 5-12 Math Education Certificate. She enjoys spending time with her family and doing needlework and other crafts. Mrs. Bucknavage is delighted to have the opportunity to be part of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School.
Mrs. Ana Butler

6B – Science (Grades 6–8)
Experience:
Ana Butler has been a middle school science teacher at Our Lady of Victory Middle School for the past 7 years. Her career in education began as a teacher at Forest Hills Public High School in Queens, New York, where she taught science for 10 years. During the last two years at Forest Hills she was the Science Coordinator of the Science department. She later taught math and history at Old Mission Montessori School in San Diego, California before coming to State College. She worked as a Course Instructor for the Education Department at Penn State and then was the coordinator of the Biomaterials and Bionanotechnology Summer Institute (BBSI) program in the Bioengineering Department at Penn State before coming to OLVCS. She has a B.S. in biology from Fordham University and a Masters in the Education of Science from Queens College of the City University of New York. She has a level two certification in both general science and biology. In her spare time she loves being with her family and friends, traveling and enjoys an occasional new challenge.
Mrs. Susan Rio Carson

7A – Social Studies (Grades 6–8)
Experience:
Susan Rio Carson has been teaching Social Studies at the OLVCS Middle School since 2007. She is also the Student Council advisor. She received a BS in Rehabilitation Education from Penn State University. After that, she returned to school and received her teaching certification in Social Studies from Susquehanna University. She worked in the Mental Health field for fifteen years and was involved with the Intensive Case Management program, which assisted mentally ill adults in the community with daily life skills. As a therapist in a Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program, she worked with the chronically mentally ill clients on both group and individual basis to develop goals to manage their illness, foster recovery, and improve their lifestyle. She was also involved with Family Health Services and Penn State Cooperative Extension where she developed and presented programs such as a prenatal program for low income families and teens, numerous topics such as stress management and coping with grief to the community, PEER review programs at two local high schools, and the dangers of ATOD (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs). She currently lives in Bellefonte with her husband, Chuck, and her golden retriever, Quincy. In her free time she enjoys reading, gardening, hiking, and sports. Mrs. Rio Carson is proud to be affiliated with the staff, parents, and students at OLVCS.
Mrs. Nan Casciola

1A Aide
Experience:
Nan Casciola has been employed at OLVCS for seven years. Currently, she is an aide in first grade and the director of OLV’s summer camp. Prior to working at OLVCS, she taught special needs students at the Easter Seals Child Development Center and was a teacher at OLV preschool. Nan graduated from Edinboro University of PA and holds a Masters Degree in Child Development from the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Casciola has two sons; David, an OLVCS graduate and Michael, currently enrolled in the Middle School. In her free time, Mrs. Casciola enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and traveling.
Mrs. Megan Davis

Experience:
Meghan Davis has been a teacher at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School since 2006. She graduated from Penn State University in December 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She began her career as a substitute teacher for Bucks County school district in Pennsylvania. In 2003, she accepted a long term substitute position as a first grade teacher at St. Albert the Great in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. She then spent two years as a fourth grade teacher at Assumption BVM in Feasterville, Pennsylvania. In 2006, she then moved to State College, Pennsylvania and accepted a position here in the Our Lady of Victory Middle School teaching Language Arts. After a year of teaching in the middle school, she transferred to her current position at OLV as a fourth grade teacher. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending Penn State Football games, going for walks, and relaxing with a good book or television show. Mrs. Davis is delighted to be a part of OLVCS and enjoys working with the members of the school community.
Mrs. Susan DeMetrick

Experience:
Mrs. DeMetrick has been the librarian for pre-school-grade 8 at OLVCS since 2003. Prior to OLVCS, she taught pre-school and kindergarten. She oversees the Elementary Reading Competition for Grades 4-6, sponsored by the CIU 10. She is also the liaison for the donations made by OLVCS to Centre County PAWS. She hopes after retirement to volunteer her time at PAWS. She is a graduate of the University of Maine at Portland/Gorham, with a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education. She is currently pursuing her M.L.S. from the University of Pennsylvania at Mansfield. In her free time she enjoys swimming, and spending time with her family on their houseboat at Raystown Lake, creating wall hangings and quilts, or curling up on the couch with one of her kitties and reading a good book. She has also appeared in numerous theatre productions at “The Playhouse” in McConnelstown. Mrs. DeMetrick enjoys working at OLVCS because of the fellowship and support she receives from her peers. She feels her job as librarian at OLVCS is very enjoyable and looks forward to coming to work every morning. She is always thrilled when her students become passionate about a particular book or author that she has introduced during a library class.

Jessica Hauser has been a First Grade teacher at OLVCS since 2005. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Lock Haven University and has also received her PA Instructional I. She loves spending her free time with her family, skiing, or camping. Mrs. Hauser feels blessed to have the opportunity to work with and for such great caring and loving school.
Mrs. Shannon Henry

Shannon Henry is thrilled to be the band director at OLVCS! She came to OLVCS with 8 years of teaching experience in NC, MD and PA. This is her 10th year teaching. Her husband was in the military, but is now employeed by and attends Penn State University. She has one child, a daughter, Ginny Rose, who is 18 months old. She has received the following degrees: B.S. in Music Education, B.A. in Flute Performance from Geneva College and Duquesne University and a Master’s degree in Reading from The College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore. She is certified in music and as a reading specialist. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 3 Labrador Retrievers, Mack, Mocha and Maggie, one of each color; she also enjoys off-roading in her jeep. She also enjoys cooking/baking and spending time with her friends. Mrs. Henry can safely say that having taught at 3 other schools, OLVCS is DEFINITELY the best place to be!
Mr. James Hoy

8A – Religion/Math (Grades 6–8)
Experience:
James Hoy has been a teacher of religion and mathematics at OLVCS Middle School since 2005. He earned his B.S. in Elementary Education from Penn State University, obtaining certification in Elementary and Kindergarten Education as well as Middle Level Mathematics. He is a consultant with the OLV Religious Education Program and is a trainer for the Protecting God’s Children for Adults. He also works as an advisor for the Middle School Drama Club and the Forensics Team. A husband and also a father of three children, he enjoys spending time with his family and working with his hands. Mr. Hoy considers himself blessed to be apart of the parish and school communities.
Mrs. Patrese Huff

Strings Instructor
Experience:
Patrese Huff has been teaching Strings in the OLVCS Instrumental Music Program since 2006. She began learning the violin at age five and has taught private students since she was in high school. Mrs. Huff has a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in Music Education with an elementary music certificate. She has advanced training through the Suzuki Association of America, including violin Suzuki teacher training through book four. She is a member of the Nittany Valley Symphony and enjoys performing. Mrs. Huff focuses her life on her family and faith. She enjoys playing sports, camping, and walking her dog. She loves teaching the great students of OLV.
Mrs. Karen Kottlowski

Since 2001 Karen Kottlowski has been helping cultivate kindness, creativity and cooperation among our youngest students. She earned a BS degree in Wildlife Science from Purdue University. As a Kindergarten instructional aide she enthusiastically shares her love of nature with the students. An avid birder, Karen also enjoys hiking and biking with her husband, Dan, and visiting their son in Seattle and their daughter in Denver. OLVCS continues to be the same loving and supportive extended family as it was years ago when Karen was a parent.
Mrs. Cindy Linzell

Experience:
Mrs. Cindy Linzell has been teaching Spanish at OLVCS since 2009. She completed her undergraduate work at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she was a double-major in Spanish and International Studies and had a minor in Latin American Studies. During this time, she also studied at La Universidad de Valencia in Valencia, Spain. After working briefly at a finance company, she returned to school to complete a certification in Spanish Education at Ohio State University. She taught Spanish for five years at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County Georgia, where she co-developed a program to use technology on a daily basis in the foreign language classroom. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her family, reading, and watching her daughters participate in sports. Mrs. Linzell is very happy to be teaching at OLVCS and sharing the language she loves.
Mrs. Kay Machi

Kay Machi began teaching at OLVCS in 1987. She was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. She is a graduate of sixteen years of Catholic education culminating with a BA Elem. Ed. degree from Duquesne University. After graduation, she taught in public schools in Pennsylvania and West Virginia for five years while earning her Instructional II Certification. Her husband Frank is retired but enjoys his part time job as a crossing guard at State College H.S. Kay’s son Mike lives in Orlando, FL. John and Joe both live in New Jersey, and Frank lives in State College. She enjoys spoiling her three grandchildren Sarah, Ben, and Janie. Mrs. Machi feels that teaching at OLVCS has been a blessing.
Mrs. Lee Marshall

Lee Marshall has been a first grade aide at Our Lady of Victory School for 8 years. She has had the privilege of working alongside her children, Andrew and Madeline as they attended OLVCS. Prior to having children she worked as an Advertising Sales Manager for a Gannet Newspaper in Bridgewater New Jersey. She graduated from Hartnell College in Salinas, California. She is married to Mike Marshall, they enjoy spending time skiing and all water related sports with their children. Mrs. Marshall appreciates working in an environment where you can call your co-workers friends, and also the parents of OLVCS.

Experience:
Heather McQueary has been employed as the art teacher at OLVCS since 2004. She is native to Reading, PA, she moved to State College after receiving her B.S. in Art Education from Penn State in 1994. Prior to employment at OLVCS, she maintained a position at The State College Framing Company and Gallery, owned and operated by her husband John. Mrs. McQueary has also taught various art classes and art camps in and around the State College area. Mrs. McQueary adores spending time with her two children Katie and Sean and her step-children John and Erin. She enjoys family vacations to the beach, going to the movies and baking. She finds the sense of community among the students at OLVCS and the support of the families that surround the school quite remarkable. She is especially pleased to be part of the OLVCS faculty.
Ms. Janel Paffie

Experience:
Janel Paffie is in her first year of teaching physical education at OLVCS. Before teaching at OLVCS, Miss Paffie was a long term substitute teacher at Clearfield Middle School. Miss Paffie attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received a BS in Health and Physical Education. While attending IUP, she played on the women’s soccer team and was appointed captain her senior year. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing soccer, snowboarding, going to the movies, and traveling. Miss Paffie is enjoying her first year of teaching at OLVCS. The faculty and staff have been very welcoming and the students are a pleasure to have in class.
Mrs. Jennifer Rogan

Jen Rogan has been teaching kindergarten at OLVCS since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. Prior to joining the OLV faculty full time, she was in the class room as a substitute teacher and an active volunteer at the school. She earned her B.S. Degree in Education from Penn State and her M.Ed in Special Education at Lehigh University. In between raising her children, she gained valuable experience teaching in a specialized preschool in Allentown, PA and as an emotional support teacher in the Bellefonte Area School District. She and her husband have 5 children, all of whom attend OLVCS and preschool. In her spare time Mrs. Rogan enjoys cooking, reading and having fun with her family.
Mrs. Carole Rose

Mrs. Rose is the KA Kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School since June, 1999. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Early Childhood from Holy Family University in Philadelphia, May 9, 1992, a Master’s Certificate in 2004, and she holds the title of Master Catechist from the Altoona/Johnstown diocese. Mrs. Rose was named one of the Teachers of the Year in 2003 by the State College magazine. Mrs. Rose began her teaching career at St. John School in Bellefonte in the position of teaching Art, Music, and Gym for grades K-6. She also taught Grade 2 and Grade 3 for the next six years. She introduced many activities into the Kindergarten program at OLVCS including: The St Francis blessing of animals, Oktoberfest and the study of Germany, The Heartprint Program, The Thanksgiving Play and Feast, Learning the 50 states in alphabetical order, Sponsoring a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas with food and gifts, The Snowman Social, The dramatic presentation of the Stations of the Cross, A Passover Seder Meal, Career Day, Grandparents’ Day, Camp Learned-A-Lot, A Scavenger Hunt, and the Finale of the Kindergarten Year with an on stage presentation and gathering of the entire Kindergarten family. She has a large family and loves being close to her husband, five children, and fourteen grandchildren. She loves cooking for all of them, especially Christmas dinner, and the Bunny Brunch. Making dolls and bears will one day be possible again when she begins a new chapter in her journey. Making the official school uniform for her dolls is an exciting adventure. She has an extensive library of children’s literature, and loves new stories with special messages to share with her students. Teaching at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School is an inspiring journey each new school year. Education is a continuous adventure, and she treasures teaching in this family environment. Mrs. Rose is thankful for every student that has been a part of her teaching career. Discovering all the ways that God has blessed them is the ultimate joy in teaching.

Susan Shelow Steyers has been an instructional aide at OLVCS since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. She was born and raised in State College, PA and as a child she attended OLVCS. She earned her B.A. degree in Economics with a Business Minor at The Pennsylvania State University. She worked in banking for ten years. Then, she took time off to raise her son. After he started Kindergarten at OLVCS, she went to work as an instructional paraprofessional in the State College Area School District for four years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, walking and sports (especially the New York Yankees).

Karen Siegel has been the music teacher at OLVCS since 2004. She graduated from Clarion University with a BS in Music Education, and received her Masters in Music Education from Penn State University. In her 17 year career, she has taught in both public and private schools in Tionesta, Strattanville, Pittsburgh, and State College. Her greatest thrill was returning to her own high school and working with her previous school choir. Mrs. Siegel loves spending time with her four wonderful children, her husband, gardening, reading, traveling and listening to music. She loves teaching at OLVCS with its great faculty and staff as it feels like an extension of her own family.
Mrs. Sharon Stec

Experience:
Sharon Stec has been a teacher at OLVCS for nearly six years. Prior to her current position, Sharon worked as a Full Day Kindergarten Teacher at North American Martyrs Catholic School for five years and as a Predictable Term Substitute Teacher in the State College Area. Sharon has been a teacher for the past twenty three years only taking a few years off to stay at home and raise her children Justin and Katie who are currently in high school. In 1987, Sharon graduated from The University of Clarion and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration on Early Childhood Education. She was awarded a PA Instructional II Certificate and a Master’s Equivalency in Education in 1993. In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking, and scrap booking, and a yearly family vacation to the beach. She has been married for 19 years to Terry, who is a Police Officer with the State College Police Department and soccer coach for the OLVCS Middle School. Sharon and her family reside in the State College area and are members of Our Lady of Victory Church. Sharon loves working with the staff and children at OLVCS and considers them part of her extended family.

Maureen Swanson has been at OLV since 1976. She attended Catholic school from first grade to college in the Diocese of Rochester, New York. She was taught by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. She graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York with a BA in History in 1967. She taught first grade at both St. Francis DeSales Elementary School in Geneva, New York and Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, New York for four years. She holds a Pennsylvania Private Academic School Certificate. She enjoys traveling, reading, puzzle books and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. JoAnne Venturino

Experience:
JoAnne Venturino has been teaching at OLVCS since 1985. She has taught fourth, third, and is presently teaching first grade. Before coming to State College, she taught fifth grade at St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Queens, N.Y. she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Cortland and a Masters degree in Reading Education from Long Island University at C.W. Post. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, reading, exercising with Mrs. Karish (mostly being with Mrs. Karish), and shopping. Mrs. Venturino feels blessed to be teaching at OLV and being with her children during their OLV years.
Mrs. Hazel Viglione

Hazel Viglione has taught third and fourth grade at OLVCS since 2003. Before coming to Pennsylvania in 2002, she taught second grade in a New Jersey public school for two years. She has a BS in Elementary Education and minor in Psychology from Shippensburg University. She is very interested in technology and serves on the technology committee at the school. She enjoys learning and trying new teaching techniques and methods. She was born in England and lived there until she was 12. She became a U.S. citizen in 2008. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her two boys, read, play board games, do puzzles, and travel. Mrs. Viglione enjoys working with such a talented and dedicated faculty at OLVCS.
Mrs. Jan Walters

Jan Walters has been an educator for twenty years in the State College Area. She has been a 5th grade teacher at OLVCS since 2000. She has previously worked for: the Intermediate Unit, State College School District, Adult Education, Easter Seals and in a Special Education classroom with children who suffer from emotional problems. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. She went on to earn her Masters of Education and Elementary Teaching Certificate from Penn State University. She currently has her PA Instructional II Teaching License. Mrs. Walters was nominated for Disney Teacher of the Year in 2001. She is included in "Who's Who Among American Teachers" since 2004. In 2010, Mrs. Walters was selected as one of four Teachers of the Year by State College Magazine. Mrs. Walters was born and raised in Pittsburgh, so naturally she is a fan of the Steelers and the Penguins. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sewing, and shopping. Mrs. Walters feels truly blessed to teach at a school with such wonderful children, staff and parents.
Mrs. Samantha Weakland

Experience:
Samantha Weakland has been teaching at OLV for eight years. She began her OLV career teaching first grade and then in 2005 switched to her current position as a third grade teacher. Prior to teaching at OLV she taught third grade at St. John the Evangelist school in Bellefonte from 1989 - 1993. She grew up in Pittsburgh where she attended Baldwin High School. She went on to continue her education at Penn State where she was a member of the Women's Volleyball team. She traveled to Chichester, England for her student teaching practicum and graduated with an Elementary Education degree. In 1990 she married her husband Chris who is a proud alumni of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. She enjoys spending time with her family, coaching and watching her children's sporting events, traveling and reading. Mrs. Weakland is grateful that all of her children attended OLV, and enjoyed being a part of their elementary experience.
Mrs. Mary Weidenhof

Mary Weidenhof is originally from Bethlehem, Pa, (not Palestine) and has been married, not to Joseph, but to Eric, for thirty-five years. They have 3 children, Emily 29, Megan 23, and Eric 19, all alumni of OLVCS. Mary has been a teacher at Our Lady of Victory School since 1976, beginning as a 5th and 6th grade teacher for 3 years, until finding her perfect fit in 3rd grade. After graduating from Penn State University with a BS in Elementary Education, with minors in Math and Science and completing her 24 certification credits, Mary entered the field of education as a teacher’s aide for IU #10 at Bellefonte Elementary School. She spent 3 years working with learning disabled and emotionally disturbed children, until she and OLV found each other. The rest is history! In her “hardly ever any” spare time, Mary enjoys relaxing with her family, reading, exercising, playing Sudoku, and singing and playing guitar. She has been a lector at OLV Church since 1977. She joined the Contemporary folk group at OLV Church in 1982, and has been the director of the Contemporary Ensemble since 1989. Mary Weidenhof feels greatly blessed to be able to share the love of her Catholic faith with her students and their families. She feels that there is no better place to teach, than OLVCS, where the wonderfully supportive faculty and staff, parents, and children are a delight and a blessing!

Mrs. Andrea Englehart

Receptionist
Experience:
Andrea Englehart is the receptionist at OLV. She also worked as a first grade aide at OLV for several years. She is originally from New Castle, PA and received a BA in Graphic Design from Seton Hill University. Her son is a graduate of OLVCS and her daughter currently attends the OLVCS Middle School. She takes great pride in the traditions that OLVCS holds. In her free time she enjoys going to the movies and spending time with friends and family.

Patty Houtz is a 1979 graduate of Bellefonte High. She has been working at OLVCS since March of 1981 her love for children is seen everyday through the halls at OLVC. She is the director of the ASAP Program . Her hobbies include crocheting, horse back riding and bingo. Her favorite vacation spot is Chincoteague Island in Virginia where the wild ponies are. Her most favorite time is when she is taking care of animals while their owners are out of town. She has 2 dogs, 2 horses and 5 cats of her own. Patty says working at OLVCS is like working with a big happy family and there aren't any other people she would rather work with than the faculty & staff of OLVCS.
Mrs. Julie Mader

Experience:
Julie Mader has been serving OLVCS as the Registrar since 2005. Her career in marketing and as an administrative assistant spans over twenty years. Mrs. Mader has spent most of her career as a convention and meeting planner for two separate international companies in Pennsylvania and Maryland. While taking some time off from work as a stay-at-home mom, Mrs. Mader filled her spare time working as a prepared childbirth educator, serving as president of Childbirth Education Association and remaining an active volunteer in the State College community. She believes strongly in Catholic education and attended St. Leo's Catholic School K-8 in Ridgway, PA and Elk County Christian (Catholic) High School in St. Marys, PA. She attended Penn State University. Both of her sons are students at OLVCS. Mrs. Mader enjoys spending time with her geologist husband, Bill, 2 sons, Frank & Andy, and our 2 fuzzy weiner dogs, Rudy & Macy.

Tom Weber, Technology Coordinator, joined OLVCS in September 2009. He grew up on a dairy farm in eastern Pennsylvania, graduated from Penn State with a BS degree in Agricultural Engineering, and provided technology services to the College of Agricultural Sciences from 1983-2008. During his time with the College of Ag he played key roles in the creation of their computer infrastructure. He was also on the team that developed PEN*PAGES, one of the first electronic public information sources for Cooperative Extension information in the country. Another significant achievement was developing the PENN*LINK system, an e-mail and text information system for all of the schools in Pennsylvania. In December 2008 he joined the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State as their IT Manager. He lives in Boalsburg with his wife and daughter and can be seen most weekends working around the house, researching family history, and of course tinkering with computers. Using his computer knowledge and skills to make a positive difference at OVLCS is very rewarding for Mr. Weber.

Rosemary Weber has been an employee of OLVCS since 2000. She has been the bookkeeper for nine years and prior to that she was a first grade aide for one year. She graduated from International Fine Arts College in Miami, Florida with an Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Merchandising. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and reading. Mrs. Weber feels very fortunate that she was able to work at OLVCS while her daughter attended it for nine years. Even though her daughter has since graduated she still enjoys sharing her day with the OLVCS family.
